Paradigm Lost - Why Have We Lost Our Most Basic Freedom?

Can you answer the following questions?

- Where is your present path of health leading you?

- Who is leading you toward optimal health? Is it you, your family, your doctor or do you even know?

Without our health all other freedoms become meaningless. Can you use lack of symptoms as a marker for wellness? Do you think you are healthy?

The first sign of heart disease in 50% of people is sudden death. Cancer lives for years before it causes symptoms and by then it is generally too late for cure. How many people do you know that fit in this category? Is it logical to only use symptoms to determine good or bad health? Can optimal health be simply measured by how long we live?

What is a Paradigm? A Paradigm is a way in which we look and think about things around us. In Medicine paradigms have changed. For instance in the 1500’s, the way many doctors treated their patients was to bleed them when they became ill.

Radiation was used in the 1950’s to treat acne. That was acceptable and it worked! Later, the side effects were found to be horrendous (skin cancer and facial disfigurement). Obviously, this is not done anymore.

It is quite clear that it is not a question if are we doing harmful? The question is what are we doing now that will be proven harmful?

The Present Paradigm of Western Medicine

One disease, one drug, one cure is the paradigm of Western Medicine. Is this sickness/disease model solving our problems or has this approach to health and wellness become part of the problem?

If you look into the Western Medicine’s approach to health and disease you will find logical inconsistencies. Western Medicine primarily utilizes a drug for treatment of illness or disease prevention. Do drugs work or do they simply hide symptoms? Are they safe or do they cause harmful side effects? Do they really cure anything? Drugs are necessary in today’s western culture because we are plagued with rampant disease.

This was not always the case. Prior to the 1960’s, most people were living on farms or at least eating nutritious home cooked foods free of toxic chemicals instead of eating processed foods. The air was clean, the water was pure. The soil of our farmlands had not been drastically depleted of nutrients.

There was disease, but not in the near epidemic form as it is today. Our Western culture has grown so fast our lifestyles are often self-destructive, leaving us a victim of circumstance. We are so busy with work, helping our children with school or taking them to functions. We see more two parents working because of financial burdens, obligating the young ones to daycare putting more stress on children and parents alike.

Stress is as rampant as is disease and often the root cause of disease. Our awareness and intake of proper nutrients is at an all time low. We do not or cannot eat healthy, nutritious foods. And lastly, our bodies are immersed in a sea of toxins causing internal damage. All of these forces have come together to cause a tremendous problem in our health.

Drugs have been a valuable resource to temporarily help us in this interim, but they are not the final answer. Drugs work on symptoms alone and not on the cause of disease.

Pharmaceuticals no doubt work. The question is are they the best for you? With drugs, we are often trading one disease (the original ailment) for a new disease (an ailment caused by the drug). This drug paradigm ultimately hopes that the new disease is not as bad as the old one.

Are drugs safe? Consider the following recent research from the Journal of the American Medical Association. Proper use of prescription medication in the U.S. is responsible for over 100,000 deaths per year and 1 million drug injuries. Do we really need to sacrifice 100,000 people a year so the rest can live? How can optimal wellness be possible if you take prescription medications each day to survive?

Good Science or Bad Logic

Does the one-disease - one drug - one cure approach lead to silly and ridiculous conclusions? Take for example a disease such as attention deficit disorder (ADD). The one drug paradigm concludes that you are born deficient in methamphetamine. If you have a headache, then you are deficient in aspirin. It goes on and on. This approach leads to utter nonsense.

Is this the type of reasoning you would use at home or at your workplace to make personal decisions? Would you accept this form of thinking from others, your spouse, or your friends? Yet we readily accept this illogic approach in regard to our health because of our conditioned beliefs.

Pharmaceuticals can and do have marvelous effects in alleviating suffering in health challenges and disease but they do not possess the fundamental answers to our health. We are getting sicker and sicker leaving us with inordinate high costs of health care and an immeasurable amount of suffering.


The Original Paradigm: Air, Water, Food

The unilateral use of the Western Medicine paradigm has failed in our quest for optimal health. It is time to re-discover the truth of the Air-Water-Food Paradigm to health. This paradigm states that everything needed for optimal health is found in the food eaten, water drunk and air breathed. Deterioration in health and wellness signifies a problem in these areas.

Health and wellness is built on the foundation of cellular health (proper cell-to-cell communication). Guarding each single cell’s health will give the body optimal health. It also states the toxins we ingest in the air, water and food are harmful to us and it is clear we need protection from them too.

There is overwhelming evidence and scientific research that ingestion of certain vital nutrients can fundamentally change cellular health and subsequently the body’s health.

Vital Nutrients

Getting sufficient nutrition is virtually impossible to attain from your daily diet alone. This fact is confirmed from research that has been amassed over the past several decades. If your body requires excellent nutrition to perform at an optimal level, what do you expect the consequences to be if you continue to supply it with insufficient levels of nutrition that are required to maintain it? To ensure optimal cell function, it is critical to be aware of all vital nutrients, so you can then take steps to provide them to your body.

Thanks for taking this time to read about a recent discovery that has the potential to dramatically improve your quality of life. And although I’m a Registered Nurse, I’m not here to discuss the diagnosis, and management or suppression of symptoms. Likely, your doctor is already doing that.

I’m here instead to introduce a paradigm shift called the emerging concept of wellness. That provides quality of life that allows you to have abundant energy, a zest for living, and the ability to live your dreams. Before going further, I must confess that for years I had been searching for a simple way to maintain health.

I had observed that even strict adherence to good health habits including proper diet, did not guarantee good health. Something seemed to be missing. Over the years, I investigated dozens of different approaches, and although things always sounded promising, nothing really made a major difference in people’s lives.

I had almost given up hope when a doctor friend told me that a main obstacle to wellness was a lack of sugars in our daily diet. When I first heard that, I laughed. Imagine there being a sugar deficiency, when the average American today is already eating close to 150 pounds of sugar per year. And this same sugar consumption has had catastrophic negative effects on our health and well being. So how could sugars be beneficial to health?

To answer that question, I’ll need to take you down to the level where wellness starts: the human cell. When our cells are healthy, every organ and system in our body will be healthy as well. And every one of the trillions of cells in our body is designed and equipped to maintain this health and wellness. But our cells depend completely on the nutritional resources from the food we eat to carry out this function. One of the most vital cellular functions, especially for the immune system, is communication.

Our immune system must be able to tell the difference between the enemies of wellness, such as foreign invaders, toxins and mutated cells, and healthy body tissue. It must quickly and accurately determine if it needs to attack or protect. A mistake in either direction will seriously compromise our chances of enjoying optimal health. Fail-safe communication is the first order of business for our immune system. This is where sugars come in.

Contrary to popular belief, sugars are not just a way to provide energy. Instead, there are some unique saccharides, or sugars, that function as the cellular alphabet or communication system. These sugars combine with proteins to form tree-like structures called glycoproteins which coat our cells like a virtual forest. The protein part of the molecule is rooted in the cell membrane. The glyco part of the molecule (or the sugars), link together to form long branching chains.

These sugar chains send and receive messages with amazing speed and accuracy. They contain the complete coding information needed for cells to talk to each other. So like a blind person reading brail, the sugar chains on immune cells can read other cells’ sugar displays to determine the appropriate response. These sugars are the operating system of the human computer. Our cells cannot fully use or incorporate any other herb, nutrient or drug unless the cells are first coded with the proper sugars.

And specifically, our immune system cannot function properly without these sugars. This news was intriguing to me. But on investigating further, I learned some interesting facts. I learned that human breast milk is rich in these sugars, validating both their safety and their efficacy. I learned that the study of these sugars has been around for over 30 years.

These scientific studies have been showcased in major journals such as The Journal of Surgical Oncology, Science Magazine, The Journal of Glycobiology, Scientific American and Acta Anatomica.

The U.S. government, along with 22 of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies has funded millions of dollars in research to study these sugars and their effect on human health. Today people are so busy that soccer moms swing by fast food outlets routinely to feed their hungry families. For all these reasons, our current food supply is not delivering adequate nutrition.

So how are we coping if our diets are deficient? Well, these sugars are so vital that our body has an emergency backup mechanism to make them. It can make any of the missing sugars from Glucose or Galactose. However, this process requires a lot of time and energy. It requires a full compliment of enzymes, which themselves are often in short supply. Stress, injuries, and various health challenges increase our requirement for these sugars.

And as we age, we simply become less efficient at making them. Most people cannot make enough of the sugars for optimal health. For these reasons, depending on the body to make the missing sugars may not be the smartest approach. So what are we to do? She got it partly right. The true disruptive innovation is wellness. Supply the body with what it needs and it will do the rest. The body is designed for wellness!
